FAQs Regarding Latisse

Everyone loves the look of a thick, long set of eyelashes. If you were not born with them or have experienced a loss or thinning of your eyelashes due to chemotherapy or over time due to the natural aging process, do not despair. There is a safe, effortless, and clinically tested/FDA-approved way you can gain this sought-after look. It’s called Latisse®, and it could work for you. But you most likely have some questions. We’re here to answer them all.

What is Latisse®?

Latisse® is the only name brand treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment for growing longer and fuller eyelashes. Originally, the medication was used to treat glaucoma. In the course of using the medication, it was found that it unexpectedly resulted in growing thicker lashes. Thus, the product was marketed as Latisse® for the purposes of growing longer lashes.

How Does It Work?

Hair grows wherever Latisse® is applied regularly. Treatments are simple and effortless. Just simply apply daily to the upper eyelashes. Latisse® is not intended to be directly applied to the lower lashes, though some transfer occurs throughout the day naturally. You should begin to see results within a month or so. Your lashes will be fully restored after multiple months. Once you stop using the product, your eyelashes will eventually return to their original state.

How Often Do I Need to Use It?

For full results, you must use the topical medication daily for the recommended time frame. The positive changes seen as a result of using Latisse® remain as long as you regularly apply the medication. Again, it should only be applied to the upper lash line. Missing an occasional application will not change your results, and many patients report seeing improvements in appearance after about one month of using the treatment. However, it all depends on the unique case.

Are Contact Lenses Allowed?

Contact lens wearers can certainly use Latisse®. The contacts must be removed during the application process. The professionals at our office will be happy to explain tips and tricks for applying the product for contact lens wearers.

Do I Need a Prescription?

Latisse® is FDA-approved only as a prescribed medication for treatment to promote the growth of eyelashes. Our professionals can help you obtain the proper prescription as long as you qualify for treatment.
