The Fellowship Difference

Dr. Taylor is a Fellowship-Trained Mohs Surgeon.

For dermatologists with a special interest in caring for patients with skin cancer, specialized fellowships in Mohs surgery are available. Qualified applicants must undergo a highly competitive application and interview process. ACGME- (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited and recognized Mohs fellowships require that a fellow log over 500 Mohs surgery cases and meet rigorous educational standards in pathology, surgery, and reconstruction. After completing a recognized fellowship, a Mohs surgeon is then eligible to apply for membership in the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS).

At Scripps Clinic in La Jolla California, Dr. Taylor learned and worked under experienced mentors including expert Mohs surgeons, skilled plastic surgeons, distinguished cosmetic dermatologists and a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon for vascular care. During his fellowship, Dr. Taylor assisted with and performed over 1000 Mohs surgeries and reconstructions and over 2500 total dermatologic surgeries and procedures.

A fellowship is not currently required to perform Mohs surgery. To find out whether a physician is a fellowship-trained member of the ACMS, please visit www.mohscollege.org, and click “Find a surgeon.”
